Hybrid RTLS

Hybrid Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS) solutions from CSL combine the best benefits of two state-of-the-art technologies — The convenience and efficiency of a real-time location tracking solution, with the low-cost, long-range features of RFID technology.

While the typical RTLS system based on Wi-Fi technology can be cost-prohibitive for tracking large inventories, CSL offers a Hybrid RTLS solution that is affordable, as well as easy to use and maintain. The CSL solution combines passive UHF tags and active RFID technology, enabling assets to be tracked, located and monitored with ease, accuracy and cost-efficiency.

CSL’s Hybrid RTLS system uses passive UHF tags that cost less than $0.10 each and don’t require batteries or other power source, greatly reducing the cost to deploy vs. typical RTLS systems. Ethernet-enabled RFID Fixed Readers, both directional and omni-directional, provide ubiquitous coverage of the area to be monitored.

UHF RFID Handheld Readers are coupled with an RTLS signal to relay the position of the tagged assets to the Fixed Readers, which then transmit that information to the company network. Using the Handheld Readers, workers scan the tracking area to locate tagged assets, picking up the tags at approximately seven meters away. The Handheld Readers emit an audio signal, much like a “Geiger counter”, and the beeping frequency increases as the worker walks toward the item.

Hybrid RTLS Applications

The ability to maintain real-time visibility of assets across large areas is simple with CSL’s Hybrid RTLS technology. For example, when China Steel Structure Company needed a cost-effective, reliable system for faster, more efficient inventory management in their manufacturing plant, they relied on CSL.

CSL created a Hybrid RTLS solution that allows personnel to share inventory information throughout the plant, eliminating redundant work in each department and improving overall plant productivity.

Hybrid RTLS technology is ideally suited for industries such as construction, shipping, oil and gas or manufacturing, for use in a range of applications:

  • Warehouse Management
  • Tool Tracking
  • Yard Management
  • Dock Management
  • Real-Time Inventory Tracking

Hybrid RTLS Benefits

The combination of active RFID technology and passive tags in the CSL Hybrid RTLS solution delivers up-to-the-minute information and complete visibility, not only improving operational efficiency, but also keeping costs low for greater return on investment.

  • Accurate, Real-Time Tracking for Complete Inventory Visibility
  • Passive Tags are Affordable to Install and Maintain
  • Tagged Assets Are Easy to Locate with “Geiger counter” Type System
  • Long Read Ranges for Ubiquitous Coverage in Large Areas
